Friday Gita Class
Friday Gita Class - started again on January 2 from Chapter 1 of Bhagavad Gita. Please click here for the class recordings.
Five thousand years ago, Arjuna was faced with the difficulty of confronting his friends and relatives in the battlefield of Kurukshetra and was confused about his duty. Like Arjuna, we too face difficulties in the battles of our day to day lives and it is important that we look at these difficulties with the right perspective. Arjuna had Sri Krishna Himself to answer all his questions and we have the Bhagavad-Gita to help us find answers to our questions. Specifically, the Bhagavad-Gita answers questions like "Who is God? Who are we? What is our relationship with God?". Srila Prabhupada mentions in his introduction to the Bhagavad-Gita that the purpose of this scripture is to deliver mankind from the nescience of material existence. To achieve this purpose, Bhagavad- Gita classes are being conducted every Friday at the Laguna beach temple for past six months.
The class is led by His Grace Tukaram Das, the Temple President. The class runs from 7pm to 8:15pm (approx.)followed by dinner prasadam. The class starts with the "Jaya Radha Madhava" bhajan, followed by a quick recap of the previously completed chapters and an indepth study of 10-15 verses from the current chapter. The class ends with a question answer session. Tukaram Prabhu very gracefully explains the translations, helps us understand the philosophy and the flow of the conversation linking current verses to verses in previous chapters. He also identifies important verses in the Bhagavad-Gita for us to remember. Further questions are discussed and answered during dinner prasadam time.
